What is a generic medication?

Generic medications are significantly discounted copies of brand name medication that have the same active ingredients, intended use, dosage, side effects, effects, and route of administration as the original brand name medication. In other words, generic medications have the same pharmacological effects as their brand-name counterparts. Over half of all prescribed medications are for generic medications.

Temovate Helps Treat the Following Conditions:

Eczema

Eczema is a skin condition which manifests in inflammation, rash, dryness, and itchiness. It usually appears on the face, hands, wrists, feet, and knees. The cause of eczema is not known but the condition is thought to be an immune system reaction to an irritant. Oftentimes, people with eczema also suffer from asthma or other allergies.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease which manifests in red, itchy, or painful scales. Psoriasis patches may be small or affect large areas of skin. Some patients may also experience bleeding patches or swollen joints. Although there is no cure, a number of treatments and lifestyle changes can help to reduce the number and severity of flare-ups.

General Drug Information

What is Temovate and What Is It Used For?

Temovate is prescribed to treat a number of skin conditions: eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rash. Temovate reduces symptoms like swelling, itching, and redness of the skin.

Usage and Application

Before sourcing Temovate online, please read the medication guide provided by your doctor or pharmacist.

Temovate should only be used on the skin. Patients should not apply it on the face, groin, or underarms unless their doctor directs them to do so. Most patients are directed to apply Temovate twice a day.

Before applying Temovate, wash and dry your hands. Next, clean and dry the affected area and apply a thin film of medication, gently rubbing it in. Do not bandage, cover, or wrap the affected area unless directed to do so by your doctor. Wash hands well after application.

Exercise caution when applying Temovate near the eyes, as the medication can worsen or cause glaucoma. Avoid getting Temovate in the nose or mouth. Should this happen, rinse the affected area with plenty of water.

Temovate can be applied to the diaper area in infants, however, parents must avoid using tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants.

Temovate should only be used for the condition prescribed. Patients should not use the medication for longer than two weeks in a row, neither should they apply more than 50 grams per week, unless directed otherwise by their doctor.

Contact your doctor should your condition persist or worsen after two weeks of use.

Considerations Before Taking Temovate

If you shop for Temovate online, note that you may encounter the drug under the generic name clobetasol propionate.

Before starting treatment, patients should tell their doctor if they are allergic to Temovate or any other corticosteroids (e.g. hydrocortisone, prednisone). Temovate may also contain inactive ingredients which can cause allergic reactions.

It is important to discuss a patient’s medical history, especially related to poor blood circulation, immune system problems, and skin conditions like rosacea and perioral dermatitis.

Patients should not use Temovate if there is an infection or sore present in the treated area.

In rare cases, using corticosteroid medications for long periods of time/over large areas of skin can make it harder for the body to respond to physical stress. Before having surgery or emergency treatment, patients should alert medical professionals that they use Temovate, or have used it within the past few months. The same applies to patients treated for serious illness or injuries.

In very rare cases, if used for a long time, Temovate may slow down a child's growth. However, the effect on final adult height is not known. Patients should have their child’s height monitored by a doctor regularly.

During pregnancy, Temovate should only be used when clearly needed. Women should discuss the risks and benefits with their doctor.

Delayed and Omitted Doses

Patients who miss a dose of Temovate should take it as soon as they remember. If it is already time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and proceed as usual. Patients should not double their dose to catch up.

Other Medications and Temovate

Drug interactions may change the way Temovate works, increasing the risk of side effects. Before starting treatment, patients need to discuss the full list of medications and supplements they are taking with their doctor. Patients should not change their dose or stop taking this medication unless their physician advises them to do so.

Some medications may interact negatively with Temovate. Examples include drugs that lower immunity like Neoral (cyclosporine) and corticosteroids taken orally like Deltasone (prednisone).

Adverse Reactions

Many patients are able to take Temovate safely without serious side effects.

Common side effects include burning, stinging, itching, dryness, and redness at the application site. These side effects may manifest as Temovate is first applied and should disappear in a few days as the body adjusts to the medication. Should these effects persist or worsen, promptly notify your doctor or pharmacist.

Serious side effects include acne, stretch marks, folliculitis, skin thinning, and/or skin discoloration. Some patients may experience extreme or unwanted hair growth.

Temovate may exacerbate skin infections. Patients should notify their doctor in the event of any redness, swelling, or irritation which does not improve.

In rare cases, Temovate may be absorbed from the skin into the bloodstream, causing negative side effects. These include unusual tiredness, weight loss, headache, vision problems, swelling ankles and/or feet, as well as increased thirst and/or urination. Patients should immediately contact their doctor in the event of such symptoms. This risk increases in children and those who use Temovate for a long period of time and/or over large skin areas.

Serious allergic reactions to Temovate are rare, yet patients should be aware of allergic symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, and throat), severe dizziness, and trouble breathing. Patients should seek immediate medical assistance if they experience such symptoms.

This is not a complete list of side effects. Notify your doctor or pharmacist in the event you notice other side effects not outlined above.

How to Store Temovate

Temovate should be stored at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Do not refrigerate. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep away from children and pets.

Unwanted medication should be disposed of properly and should not be poured into drains or flushed down the toilet. Patients should consult a pharmacist or their local waste disposal company to find out more about safe disposal methods.
