What is a generic medication?
Generic medications are significantly discounted copies of brand name medication that have the same active ingredients, intended use, dosage, side effects, effects, and route of administration as the original brand name medication. In other words, generic medications have the same pharmacological effects as their brand-name counterparts. Over half of all prescribed medications are for generic medications.

Visken Overview
Visken is used alone or with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems. Pindolol belongs to a class of medications called beta-blockers. It works by blocking the effects of certain natural substances (such as epinephrine) on the heart and blood vessels. This results in a lowering of the heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart.
Visken Warnings
Do not stop taking Visken without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when you suddenly stop Visken. Some people who have suddenly stopped taking similar drugs have had chest pain, heart attack, and irregular heartbeat. If your doctor decides you should no longer use Visken, your doctor may direct you to gradually decrease your dose over 1 to 2 weeks. When gradually stopping Visken, it is recommended that you temporarily limit physical activity to decrease strain on the heart. Get medical help right away if you develop chest pain/tightness/pressure, chest pain spreading to the jaw/neck/arm, unusual sweating, trouble breathing, or fast/irregular heartbeat.
How to Use Visken
Take Visken by mouth with or without food, usually twice daily or as directed by your doctor. The Dosage of Visken is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. It may take 1-2 weeks before the full benefit of Visken takes effect. Keep taking Visken even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. Use Visken regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same times each day. Inform your doctor if your condition lasts or gets worse (for example, if your routine blood pressure readings increase).
Visken Precautions
Before taking pindolol, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other beta-blockers (such as acebutolol); or if you have any other allergies. Visken may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details. Before using Visken, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, severe allergic reactions (such as anaphylaxis), breathing problems (such as asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease-COPD, emphysema, chronic bronchitis), blood circulation problems (such as Raynaud's disease, peripheral vascular disease), low blood flow to the heart/brain (such as due to coronary artery disease, stroke, transient ischemic attack), diabetes, heart problems (such as heart failure, heart attack, slow heartbeat), kidney disease, liver disease, mental/mood disorders (such as depression), a certain muscle problem (myasthenia gravis), overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), a certain type of tumor (pheochromocytoma). Visken may make you dizzy or drowsy. Alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) can make you more dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis). To minimize dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a seated or lying position. Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking Visken. Visken may rarely make your blood sugar level rise, causing or worsening diabetes. Tell your doctor right away if you develop symptoms of high blood sugar such as increased thirst or frequent urination. If you have diabetes, Visken may mask the fast/pounding heartbeat you would usually feel when your blood sugar level falls too low (hypoglycemia). Other symptoms of a low blood sugar level such as dizziness and sweating are unaffected by Visken. Older adults may be at greater risk for side effects (such as dizziness) while using Visken. During pregnancy, Visken should be used only when clearly needed. It may harm an unborn baby. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Visken passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Visken Misdose
If you miss a dose of Visken, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
