Eye Solution/DropsTravatan Z Helps Treat the Following Conditions:
Open-angle glaucoma
Open-angle glaucoma is caused by blockage in the eye’s drainage canals. The clogged canals cause eye pressure to increase inside the eye. Over time, this damages the optic nerve. The disease first manifests as loss of side vision and is therefore hard to detect.
Open-angle glaucoma develops over time, usually without symptoms. If left untreated, this condition can lead to blindness. Often, by the time a patient feels something is wrong with their vision, the disease is quite advanced. Regular eye exams and treatment can help preserve vision.
Ocular Hypertension
This condition manifests as elevated pressure inside the eye. If untreated, it can lead to glaucoma and eventually – blindness.

General Drug Information
What is Travatan Z and What Is It Used For?
Travatan Z is prescribed to patients with open-angle glaucoma and other eye conditions such as ocular hypertension. It helps reduce pressure inside the eye. It is a new formulation of Travatan and contains the same active ingredient, travoprost. Instead of the preservative benzalkonium chloride, Travatan Z contains a new patented substance with a gentler effect on the ocular surface.
Usage and Application
Most patients are prescribed Travatan Z once a day, usually in the evening. Patients should use this medication exactly as prescribed by their doctor. Do not apply Travatan Z more than prescribed.
Travatan Z should be taken regularly in order to experience its full benefit. To help patients remember, it is recommended that the medication is taken at the same time each evening.
Before applying the eye drops, wash hands well. Make sure the dropper tip does not touch the eye, or any other surface, during application. This can lead to contamination.
To apply the eye drops, tilt your head back, look upward and pull the lower eyelid down, forming a pouch. Holding the dropper directly over the eye, drop the prescribed amount of medication into this pouch.
Look downward and close your eyes for a minute or two. Be sure to place one finger at the corner of the eye near the nose, applying gentle pressure to prevent the medication from draining out. It is important not to blink or rub the eye.
Replace the dropper cap after each use.
Patients using other eye medications should wait at least five minutes before applying them. To be absorbed properly, eye drops should always be applied before ointments.
Considerations Before Taking Travatan Z
Before starting treatment, patients should tell their doctor if they have any allergies, especially to eye medications such as bimatoprost and latanoprost. This can help rule out the possibility of developing an allergic reaction to Travatan Z.
It is important to discuss a patient’s medical history, especially related to eye problems like macular edema, iritis, uveitis, and lens extraction.
Patients who undergo eye surgery, or develop an eye infection or injury, need to discuss the continued use of Travatan Z with their doctor. In such cases, patients may be advised to start a new bottle of the medication.
Travatan Z may cause temporary blurred vision. Patients with this side effect should not perform activities that require clear vision, like driving or using machinery, until the problem disappears and such activities can again be performed safely.
Pregnant women need to discuss the risks and benefits of Travatan Z with their doctor, and should only use it when clearly needed. It is not known whether this medication passes into breast milk.
Delayed and Omitted Doses
Patients who miss a dose of Travatan Z should take it as soon as they remember. If this happens near the time for the next dose, patients should skip the missed dose and proceed as usual. Patients should not double up on the dose in order to catch up.
Other Medications and Travatan Z
Drug interactions may change the way Travatan Z works, and can increase the risk of side effects. Before starting treatment, patients need to discuss the full list of medications and supplements they are taking with their doctor. Patients should not change their dose or stop taking this medication unless their physician advises them to do so.
Some drugs may interact negatively with Travatan Z. One example is bimatoprost, a medication that treats glaucoma and eyelash conditions.
This is not a full list of all possible drug interactions. Patients should speak with their doctor or pharmacist for more details.
