What is a generic medication?
Generic medications are significantly discounted copies of brand name medication that have the same active ingredients, intended use, dosage, side effects, effects, and route of administration as the original brand name medication. In other words, generic medications have the same pharmacological effects as their brand-name counterparts. Over half of all prescribed medications are for generic medications.

Isordil Overview
Isosorbide dinitrate is used to prevent chest pain (angina) in patients with a certain heart condition (coronary artery disease). Isordil belongs to a class of drugs known as nitrates. It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels so blood can flow more easily to the heart. Isordil will not relieve chest pain once it occurs. It is also not intended to be taken just before physical activities (such as exercise, sexual activity) to prevent chest pain. Other medications may be needed in these situations. Consult your doctor for more details.
How to Use Isordil
Take Isordil by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually 2 to 3 times daily. It is important to take the drug at the same times each day. Do not change the dosing times unless directed by your doctor. Use Isordil regularly to get the most benefit from it. Do not suddenly stop taking Isordil without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when the drug is suddenly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased. Although unlikely, when Isordil is used for a long time, it may not work as well and may require different dosing. Tell your doctor if Isordil stops working well (for example, you have worsening chest pain or it occurs more often).
Isordil Precautions
Before taking Isordil, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to similar drugs (such as isosorbide mononitrate, nitroglycerin); or if you have any other allergies. Isordil may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details. Before using Isordil, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, recent head injury, anemia, low blood pressure, dehydration, other heart problems (such as recent heart attack). Isordil may make you dizzy. Alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) can make you more dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis). Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you are using Isordil. Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of Isordil, especially dizziness and lightheadedness, which could increase the risk of falls. During pregnancy, Isordil should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if Isordil passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Isordil Misdose
If you miss a dose of Isordil, take it as soon as you remember. If it is within 2 hours of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Some products have ingredients that could worsen your heart failure. Tell your pharmacist what products you are using, and ask how to use them safely (especially cough-and-cold products, diet aids, or NSAIDs such as ibuprofen/naproxen). Isordil Side Effects
Headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, and flushing may occur as your body adjusts to Isordil. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
