What medical conditions does Fortacin treat?
Premature ejaculation
Premature ejaculation (PE) is the most common form of sexual dysfunction in adult men, affecting 30% to 50% of the male population. PE is when a man climaxes and ejaculates (releases semen) sooner than he would like during sex, typically within 1 to 2 minutes after beginning sexual intercourse. PE is more common than erectile dysfunction, for which Viagra (sildenafil) is prescribed.
What is the active ingredient in Fortacin?
Generic equivalent of Fortacin: lidocaine/prilocaine
Fortacin is a combination of spray-on topical anesthetics marketed by Recordati that is used in the treatment of premature ejaculation. It contains the 2 numbing active substances lidocaine and prilocaine. When sprayed on the glans (head) of the penis, it helps reduce sensitivity and slow down how fast you climax (ejaculatory latency). This can lead to increased sexual satisfaction and less distress.
General Drug Information
What is Fortacin and what do you use it for?
For many years topical local anaesthetics have been prescribed as off-label treatments. Fortacin was the first officially approved topical therapy for PE in Europe in 2013 and was launched in the United Kingdom in late 2016. It is currently not approved for use in the USA.
How do you take Fortacin?
Always read the patient information leaflet before using this and any other medication.
Before first using Fortacin, briefly shake the container and spray the valve 3 times into the air away from your face. You will only need to spray it once away from your face before each subsequent dose.

How well does Fortacin work?
Fortacin’s effectiveness has been shown primarily in 2 studies consisting of adult heterosexual men with PE over the course of 12 weeks. Effectiveness was measured by the patient’s time to climax following penetration, ejaculation control, distress, and sexual satisfaction.
The first study showed that patients using Fortacin had an average ejaculation time of 2.6 minutes while those in the placebo group had an average time of 0.8 minutes. The second study showed that patients using Fortacin had an average time to ejaculation of 3.8 minutes while those using a placebo took an average of 1.1 minutes to ejaculate.
